FF is a top notch person and commissioner. He's been put in some really tough situations over someone essentially gaming the system and then pointing out that it's okay to do because there is not an explicit rule in place. A tough situation? I might be the worst FOF commissioner in history if I ever held top spot. But for me this would of been dealt with around 60 seconds. First time up the players gets cut and he is politely asked not to be a douche bag. Second time up, if he can't provide a reasonable excuse such as opps sorry I forgot, he gets kicked out the league. For me it is easy and straight forward. Well, maybe I should say that he allowed this to put him in a tough spot, but I believe he's just a really good guy trying to do the best he can to keep 31 grown men happy. I agree this is a situation where you need to move swiftly and with a big stick. However, everyone has their own leadership style.

Let's be real. The ONLY reason that league exists is because Bode pays out money to GMs. That league was half full before Firefly took over the commish duties and Bode decided to make it profitable for GMs. Without money being involved, the league would fold instantly.

Question? No one else offered on the players, correct? So why does this GM who can't stay/won't under the cap do this? I'll wait... Anyone, Nemesis, anyone else? Another question, when was the last time any of you went 0-16 in a league? I'll wait.... And be over the cap... Talk among yourselves and re-post here also. notfofc.proboards.com/thread/13/franchise-salariesAs for the questions above...still waiting.

What I am struggling with is why the commissioners are letting this happen? I don't know what Cuckoo has had to say but Firefly actually stuck up for him in the CyFL. Maybe it is about being able to use OOTP to recruit, I don't know. But I do know I could never play in either with this BS going on.

Question? No one else offered on the players, correct? So why does this GM who can't stay/won't under the cap do this? I'll wait... Assuming we're still talking about Sorcerer Ben here. Correct, no one offered, he then ended up signing an AI forced minsal deal with Cleveland because they had an illegal roster if I read that right. Ben was over the cap once a few seasons ago and took advantage of a loophole. And was under the cap during the signing. Maybe I misunderstand the question. Everyone knows that even though he signed him to 5 years, there was no way he was keeping that player multiple seasons at that contract, that's absurd. Even if he kept the player through FA, resigned him to a restructured contract that abolished the ridiculous salary, and caused the franchised player number to go sky high for DE's, I still wasn't concerned. If for any reason I have a player on my roster that is sitting on the franchise cap number, I'm either restructuring for an extension, trading if I can't resign, or cutting (which I did just the other season with the stud RB that died after his injury). If I misunderstood what you meant, lemme know.Anyone, Nemesis, anyone else? Another question, when was the last time any of you went 0-16 in a league? I'll wait.... NeverAnd be over the cap... Never, combined with the above question.Talk among yourselves and re-post here also. notfofc.proboards.com/thread/13/franchise-salariesAs for the questions above...still waiting. I get why dudes were pissed about being 100mil over the cap, that affected alot of teams, and the game doesn't punish you enough for doing that, and no rules were in place because you don't know what you don't know. The contracts he gave? Nah, wouldn't affect anyone unless you wanted it to affect you.

Oh and for the record, I was 2-14 once while being way over the cap. I wasn't about to burden my cap with horseshit free agents just because it would make me 3-13.

www.fof-cfl.com/forums/forum/main/general-discussion/72466-2055-off-season/page9This is just an awesome thread, it's been keeping me entertained for days. But at the same time it does make me think can i be bothered with MP because it's very clearly not a level playing surface for all of us. I think others feel the same, actually i know others feel the same. The really sad thing is that MP is shrinking and the kind of stuff Ben thinks is OK to do is just speeding up that process. If that's what people want keep following Ben or worse still try and help justify what he does.

Seriously a cave man with an abacus could have got closer to the cap than he did.
Damn, I have to remember that one.

Also, holy shit that thread. Rob going off. Frankie going off. Amazing. It does make me sad to see a game people enjoy being ruined by someone. When we play these games, I think there's a certain understanding that we all have. We know the game is not perfect, so for the sake of trying to preserve some aspect of realism and fairness, we all handicap our selves in certain areas. We don't offer this max salary contracts, or how in FOF7 we didn't offer fully guaranteed one year contracts to beat out long term offers.
This is supposed to be a fun, friendly game which some guys that share a passion about football and running a fake team. You shouldn't be scanning through the game trying to find advantages like these. My friend and I used to play NCAA 14 all the time vs each other. One day, my friend noticed that everytime he ran 4 verticals and rolled out the the right, the CB would stop covering his guy and start chasing the QB. Leaving 1 safety to try can cover 2 WRs. In one half his QB had 1,000 yards and 10 TDs. I told him, and he agree, that we wouldn't do that any more. Is it in the game? Yes. Is it against the rules? No. But it's an exploit. It's not something that was intended to work that way and so we don't do it.
As for the salary cap punishment. Some of the discussion in OTTP forums has made me realize that Jim must have, at least recently with FOF8, been thinking mostly of the single player community when making the game. That's fine, but when designing a single player game, especially one like this where you can have a franchise spanning centuries, you don't want to ruin a guys game because he fucked up with the cap and can't get under. The AI is not going to complain so he sits over the cap a season, learns, and from there on maybe he manages his cap better. That mechanic obviously was not designed with multiplayer in mind.

Ben going $100mil over the cap in the NAFL ended up being a nonissue. At a certain stage of the offseason (I think TC) you need to be under the cap. If you're not under the cap you lose a draft pick, and players get cut until you're under the cap limit. A couple teams got a shot at some big name free agents that wouldn't usually be available, and Ben completely screwed his roster over, other than that it was really a nonissue for the league. Every draft a few people suggest we remove him because he's auto picked the first round of the last few drafts, and if we had an abundance of people on the wait list we probably would, I'd vote to give the franchise to someone more active.
I've only been doing the FOF MP league for like a year, and the only leagues I've played in are Ben's GM league and the NAFL. The GML moves so fast a lot of owners seem to use it as an opportunity to experiment different draft styles and combinations of players. I've never seen him post in the forums conversationally in either league, so I don't really have an opinion of him. All the hate makes me laugh though, I agree that it's bullshit if players are going to play over the cap or offer ridiculous deals that set the market for the rest of the league. But once the problem surfaced its such an easy solution to make it a rule that all teams need to be under the cap by X stage.
By the way "fair play" would probably go right out the window for me once money was involved. I guess it depends how much money.

A non issue? He kept $100 million worth of talent that should not have been playing for the team. I don't follow you.
I am just gald I play in a league where fair play is top priority and I don't have to suffer this. Pretty laughable that a commish lets a GM play $100 over cap. The more I think about it the worse I actually think it is.

This actually makes it worse IMO with the shit he got away with in CyFL.
